W4 Activity: Practice Crafting Your RQ-DV-IVs-Hypothesis Quantitative Research Methodology
Forum Context: Learning how to craft a research methodology that is legitimate and valid is one of the most important learning objectives of this course. A legitimate and valid research methodology is comprised of the following componenents: a Research Question (RQ), one Dependent Variable (DV), several (2-5) Independent Variables (IVs), and a Hypothesis. We will use this forum activity to practice crafting a legitimate and valid research methodology for your research project in this course.
Forum Activity: Please present your Research Question (RQ), Dependent Variable (DV), Independent Variables (IVs), and Hypothesis for your research project.
Please use the following format for this post:
RQ: (this identifies your topic and scope of your inquiry)
DV: (this is the “effect” you are investigating: only one)
IVs: (these are the main “causes” of the “effect” you are investigating; between 2-5)
Hypothesis: (this combines your variables into a single statement that shows their cause-and-effect relationships and provides a viable best educated guess at the answer to the RQ you have posed)
RQ: What are the most important ingredients for grass to grow? (identifies the topic and scope of inquiry)
DV: ingredients for grass to grow (this is the “effect” you are investigating; in this case, this is the list of the most important ingredients)
IVs: IV 1 sunlight; IV 2 oxygen; IV 3 water (these are the main “causes” of the “effect” you are investigating; in this case, these are the most important ingredients)
Hypothesis: Sunlight, oxygen, and water are the most important ingredients for grass to grow. (this combines your variables into a single statement that shows their cause-and-effect relationship and provides a viable best educated guess at the answer to the RQ you have posed)
Provide at least one reference that you used to develop your variables (it can be to the assigned reading and/or the lesson material).
In your two peer responses, please let each of your peers know if you can follow the logic of their methodology.
For example: I understand your RQ and DV, but I don’t quite understand your IVS. Also, I am not quite sure how your hypothesis provides a direct answer to your RQ.
It is also okay to let your peer know that you can follow the logic of their methodology quite easily, which is also quite valuable feedback. For example: I understand how your RQ, DV, IVs, and Hypothesis are connected and relate to one another.
Your feedback will let your peers know how effective and logical their proposed methodology is to outsiders. Your critique should be substantive in nature and designed to improve your classmates’ methodology and help them refine in further.

Your initial post must address each aspect of the format I have provided (there is no required word count), and to earn more points should include at least one direct reference to the assigned reading and a complete citation for it at the bottom of your post.
Please respond to at least two other students. Peer responses must be a minimum of 100 words and be substantive as I have indicated above. The goal is to provide your peers with feedback that is specific and helpful.
