Although your focus is exploring one theory in depth, as you engage with colleagues, consider other theories that also apply to your practice issue.
Post a brief description of your assigned theory:(Cultural Competence/Diversity)( and your practice issue. Then, explain how you would apply your assigned theory to your practice issue and explain your reasoning. Be specific and provide examples. Cite your sources in your post.
interdisciplinary theory:Cultural Competence/Diversity
practice issue from the Week 2 Discussion follow
Healthcare has changed significantly in the last decade. Technology has advanced exponentially, hence, requiring nurses to learn new software and program frequency. Learning new systems is very challenging as nurses are unfamiliar with most of the emerging technology that is being adopted to provide healthcare services (Barnard, 2002, pp.15-26). The inability of nurses to keep up with technological innovations relating to the provision of healthcare has made them to lose their competitive edge in the workplace. The effective use of technology allows individuals to carry out their activities faster and more efficiently. Consequently, the failure to use technology can effectively hinder nurses from being unable to rise through the ranks. Nurses are also likely to become irrelevant as they are likely to lack the knowledge and skills required to meet their customers’ needs and wants over time. This will be, especially, be detrimental to old nurses as new graduate nurses are likely to have a better capability to embrace the use of emerging technology in the provision of healthcare services (Barnard, 2002, pp.15-26). Finally, nurses who are unable to assimilate the latest technology in their workplace are often forced to spend more time playing catch up when compared to their peers. Using agile and powerful technology is proposed as a strategy of enabling nurses to take advantage of technology to ensure they remain relevant in providing healthcare services.
The nursing theory that would have been most effective in solving the problem of the application of emerging technology by older nurses is the Lewin’s Change Theory of Nursing. Kurt Lewin first developed the theory to analyze how change can be implemented in the nursing profession (Kaminski, 2011). The theory divides change into three main stages, namely unfreezing change, refreezing the change and unfreezing the change. The first unfreezing stage will allow nurses to prepare on how transition from the use o‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌f old nursing patterns into the adoption of a new process of behaviors, habits and thoughts. Specifically, the stage provides nurses with the opportunity to be conversant with the application of skills that are necessary for the adoption new technology (Kaminski, 2011). The refreezing stage involves establishing the learnt skills and processes as the new norm. This allows nurses to let go of old nursing processes while applying new processes when dispensing their duties. The next unfreezing process will be carried out to allow for the assimilation of new technology. The next theory that should be implemented to solve the problem of emerging technology in nursing is King’s Theory of Goal Attainment (Kaminski, 2011). The theory insists that nursing is a process of action, reaction and interaction through which nurses and clients share information about their perceptions regarding various nursing situations. Specifically, the theory explains the process of human interactions between nurses and clients which often entails setting goals, discussing the availability of means, and agreeing on the specific means that will be used to achieve goals (Caceres, 2015, pp.151-155). While the patient offers knowledge of themselves and their perspective of the challenges they are facing as a result of the medical condition they are suffering from, the nurse contributes their professional perspective to help both parties to come up with suitable interventions. Therefore, nurses are required to set goals on how they can implement continuous learning on the application of technology in their career. Specifically, this enhances the capability of nurses to provide patients with suitable solutions on how to overcome challenges that result from their medical conditions through the use of technology. The theory will also allow nurses to easily set goals and to formulate strategies on how attain them to increase the quality of their service delivery. The improved assimilation of technology will allow compassionate care to be easily implemented in nursing (Caceres, 2015, pp.151-155). Care with compassion is at the heart of nursing. Consequently, the discussion above highlights how registered nurses can improve their ability to understand and empathize their patients’ needs by integrating theory into practice in order to provide appropriate and high-quality healthcare services.

Medicare eligible: all

A‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ssignment Criteria:
For the HIT Report, address the following dataset query from your workplace:
1. Query: Using the latest year’s available data, is there a difference in the prevalence of heart failure for selected populations (White, Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Other) for Florida’s Medicare recipients compared with the national prevalence of heart failure for these six populations of Medicare recipients?
2. Search the CMS MMD dataset by following these steps. You will conduct six searches for data by only changing the race/ethnic parameters (White, Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Other). Data from each search will be presented in a downloadable spreadsheet showing data for all states and the comparison to the
nation. You will locate in the dataset the record (a row in the spreadsheet table) for Florida and then move across the row to find the comparison prevalence data for the nation.
Getting started:
a. Visit the CMS Medicare Mapping Disparities page
b. Choose the Population tab at top. From the Get Started box, select “GO” to begin your first search of the dataset.
c. From the drop-down boxes which are dataset fields, choose the following parameters. Note that the comparison group is the nation and the national parameters in the search must match those set for the state.
Dataset Fields: Search Parameters
Year: most recent single year of data available at the time you complete this
assignment
Geography: State Territory
Measure: Prevalence
Adjustment: Unsmoothed Actual
Analysis: Difference from National Average
Domain: Primary Chronic Conditions
Condition: Heart Failure
Sex: All
Age: All
Race and Ethnicity: White (and then change this population to
Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, American
Indian/Alaskan Native, and Other)
Dual Eligible: Medicare Only
Medicare Eligible: All
Comparison Sex: All
Comparison Age: All
Comparison Race and Ethnicity: White (and then change this population to
Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, American
Indian/Alaskan Native, and Other)
Comparison Dual Eligible: Medicare Only
Comparison Medicare Eligibility: All
3. Extract the relevant data from each of the spreadsheets and construct one spreadsheet using MS Excel. Present the raw
prevalence data (White, Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Other ) in a table
format with headers and formulas to determine and show the differences in state and national prevalence and averages. See
the course module for an example of a final spreadsheet.
These are the 5 fields (sex through
Medicare eligible) and parameters for the
state’s data.
These are the 5 comparison fields and
parameters for the national data;
national parameters must match state
parameters. You only need to ch‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ange
the race and ethnicity parameter in
each of the 6 searches.
American
Indian/Alaskan Native, and
Other
These are the parameters for the state
4. Transform the data from the spreadsheet and create two charts: an Excel line chart and a bar chart using the spreadsheet’s raw data
table. Utilize color to showcase the findings. Review the literature to determine whether a line or bar chart is appropriate for presenting prevalence data. Cite a source to support your choice of chart.
5. Generate the HIT Report document that will include your analyses, a copy of your Excel spreadsheet and one preferred selected chart. For your analyses include the following:
a. Intro to the paper and brief overview of heart failure prevalence in the United States as a population health problem. Cite sources.
b. Answer the dataset query by reporting a summary of findings from the Excel table and selected chart. Your selection of a chart should present the data most clearly and be best practice for showing prevalence data. Cite sources. Include the table and selected chart within the text or as appendices per APA 7th edition format.
c. Analyze the table and your chart for trends and presence of health disparities among the races/ethnicities. Cite sources.
d. As the DNP leading this report, propose one additional source of data to be collected and tracked in the EHR. Generate a new dataset query question that includes this additional source of data. Cite sources.
e. Propose one specific evidence-based recommendation/strategy to the workplace that could improve health outcomes for
Florida’s Medicare heart failure patients (choose one specific race/ethnicity, gender, or age). The recommendation should be supported by evidence from the current literature. Cite one or more sources.
e. End the paper with a brief conclusion explaining the relevance of using HIT databases/datasets such as the CMS MMD to generate information and knowledge for clinical practice. Cite a source.
6. The scholarly paper should be in narrative format, 5 to 6 pages excluding the title and reference pages.
7. Include an introductory paragraph with a purpose statement and a conclusion.
8. Utilize level 1 and 2 headings to organize the paper.
9. Write the paper in third person, not first person (meaning do not use ‘we’ or ‘I’) and in a scholarly manner. To clarify: “I, we, you, me, and our” may not be used. In addition, describing yourself as the researcher or the author should not be used.
10. Include a minimum of five professional peer-reviewed scholarly journal references to support the paper (review in Ulrich Periodical Directory) and be less than five (5) years old. Cite the CMS MMD dataset as a reference and to support tables/charts.
11. APA7th edition format required (attention to spelling/grammar, a title page, direct quotes, a reference page, table/chart formatting‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌,
and in-text citations).
